In Person With

What We Will Cover

Straight talk and live demonstrations from the Sheriff's Department

Gun Safety

No gun yet: should you own one, which type is right for you, and how to use it safely, with a live demonstration.

Already own one: safe storage and handling at home, especially with children in the house.

Prefer no gun at all: nonlethal options for protecting your home.

Home Invasion

Exactly what to do, step by step, if someone is in your home: where to go, how to keep your family together, what to say when you call 911, and what to expect when deputies arrive.

Also: someone at your door you do not know, and when not to open it.

When to Call 911

What counts as an emergency, when to use the SCV Station's non emergency line instead, what the dispatcher needs from you, and why calling is never a bother.

Followed Home

If you think a car is following you to the gate or into your driveway: what to do, where to go instead, when to call, and how to tell a real threat from a neighbor heading home behind you.

Protecting Yourself

When and how to protect yourself and your family, at home and away from it, and what the law actually allows you to do.

Suspicious Activity vs. Profiling

How to tell the difference between someone who does not belong and profiling, what to report, how to report it, and what to actually do in the moment.

Free meal, dessert, snacks and refreshments provided

Mature Audiences

Children at your discretion

Because of the sensitive nature of the topics, this night is for mature audiences. If you feel your child will not be negatively impacted by what he or she hears when we talk about safety, your child is welcome to attend with you. Julie's own children will be there.

Presented Solely By

Uniform Families Foundation

Safe at Home SCV is organized and hosted by Uniform Families Foundation alone, with the LA County Sheriff's Department and the California Highway Patrol as our guests for the evening.

Why I Built This

Prepared Is Not Good Enough Until All of Us Are

I built Safe at Home SCV for the community my family lives in. As a fire family, we are very well prepared, and for me that is not good enough. I want our entire neighborhood prepared, so when something happens we are not in a panic. We are informed, we are calm, and we know exactly what to do.

Safety in a neighborhood is not a matter of opinion. It is a matter of facts, and the facts come from the people who do this work every day. That is why the deputies of the Santa Clarita Valley Station are coming to us, in person, to answer every question you have.

We are one community. We protect our property and we protect each other. This night is where that starts.

How the Night Works

1

RSVP with your headcount

Use the form below. Seating and food are set by the number of guests who RSVP.

2

Sign in and grab a plate

A free meal, dessert, snacks and refreshments are waiting when you walk in.

3

Hear from the deputies and officers and watch the demonstrations

The Sheriff's Department walks us through each topic and shows it done safely and correctly.

4

Ask your questions

Bring them with you or send them ahead in your RSVP, and get answers in the room.

RSVP

Safety has been the conversation in this community since the first of us moved in, from the day it was built. This is the night we finally get the answers, in one room, from the people who have them. Food is paid for and provided and seating is limited, so RSVP with your exact headcount and there will be a seat and a plate waiting for you. We will contact you as soon as the date and location are set.

Coming Next

Wildfire Preparedness Event

Our second community event is on a much larger scale, for the Tesoro Highlands community and our neighboring community down the hill, Tesoro. It brings every agency we count on in a disaster into one room: the LA County Sheriff's Department, Santa Clarita Valley Station, the firefighters who serve our area, SCV Water, the Department of Water and Power, the American Red Cross, and our local animal shelters, who will cover what to do with your pets in a disaster. Every household goes home with informational pamphlets on fire safety and emergency preparedness, and one family wins an emergency preparedness kit in a drawing held in front of everyone.
